asia-house:

Today for lunch, Asia House residents cooked a Korean dish called budae jjigae, in English “military stew”. The dish arose from army bases in Korea, where ingredients like spam and Vienna sausage were prevalent. In addition to spam and Vienna sausage, Angela Kwon (‘14) added pork sausage, Korean ramen noodles, tteok (rice cake), and assorted vegetables.

Alix Ryu (‘14), an Asia House resident, explained that his favorite part of budae jjigae is “the fact that it’s cooked in a Korean way but has non-ingredients. It’s a good fusion.” Maya Coleman (‘12) said, “It makes you want to go to Nebraska.” She explained, “It makes you want to go and show it to someone who only eats corn.”

Angela said of her cooking experience: “My favorite part was definitely making it pretty and taking pictures. I’m a big fan of eating with your eyes first.”
