From 1:00-3:00pm on Friday, Jan. 20, Big Parade organizers will host a kids’ activity in the FAVA Classroom, FREE of charge.
This is just one of many free Big Parade workshops that will take place in the coming months (the Big Parade is May 5 at noon!), so if you can’t make it out tomorrow, please stay tuned for future postings.
Also, if you have special interest in the Big Parade, please get in touch and find out how YOU can get involved!
There were so many masks during the Big Parade open hours last night! One of them had a seat for me. Then they tried to put orange plaster on my face, but I said no because it doesn’t match my new scarf.
Your mission:
We’re having a video contest, starring YOU!
In 60 seconds or less, we’d love to see you demonstrate your enthusiasm for Oberlin. Go all out: sing, dance, draw, compose a poem, make a recipe, write a theorem, skip, jump, shout, or whatever tickles your fancy, as long as you can fit it into a short video to share with us.
How to Participate:
1. Express your enthusiasm for Oberlin in a video of 60 seconds or less.
2. Upload your video to Youtube, give it a cleverly awesome title, and tag it with “Oberlin” (you can tag with other things too!).
3. Send us your video link via our submission form.
4. All video submissions are due by 11:59 pm EDT on Sunday, June 12th, 2011.
Bonus: Post your video to the Oberlin 2015 Facebook group to show off your hard work!
Things to remember:
Our fabulous prizes:
1st place - an iPad
2nd place - an iPod touch
3rd place - an Oberlin sweatshirt
Every person with a valid video submission will receive a free ticket to the Apollo, our historic local movie theater!
Our fabulous judges:
We will select our favorite videos based on the criteria of creativity, personality, and “Obieness’” (interpret that however you’d like). Our top 10 will be submitted to the entire 2015 incoming class for voting on the final winners.

Our second video from the recent FAVA-AMAM Teen Workshop on printmaking. Here, AMAM Education and Public Programs assistant Alexandra Tell (OC ‘13) demonstrates silkscreen printing to the students.
Every semester, the AMAM and the Firelands Association for the Visual Arts (FAVA) team up to offer free workshops specifically geared towards teenagers. These workshops focus on a particular medium and introduce students to its history and techniques. This spring, we explored the many types of printmaking. In this video we show students creating their works using linoleum block and silkscreen print methods.
