I take this as a direct attack on our culture because this is our space, this is our cultural center and a lot of people don’t understand what that is or what it represents. As I got into living here I began to see things and understand what the importance was of the Afrikan Heritage House. I’m really very proud and honored to be a part of it. We need to make sure that everybody knows our standards.

This work of art was written in our school’s newspaper to shed light on the rampant racism on campus. Content warning for anti-black slurs.
We, the concerned members and allies of the Oberlin Afrikana community, are sick and tired… Read more.
A piece by members of our campus community published in the Oberlin Review, and the response from alumni in the following week’s issue. There has been an open forum and a large group discussion on the topics since the publication of both letters, plus a follow-up news article in the Oberlin Review.

SciFi Hallers in their natural habitat.
It’s pretty common for someone to bring their computer to dinner, and even more common for someone with a computer to find something they just need to show to everyone on hall. Kahn Hall was designed with modification in mind. Since the community in Kahn changes every year as a new class joins us on campus, the hope is that the building will continue to improve as time goes on. Even in the past year, students have installed the recycling and composting programs and the light switches in the public areas have been modified based on student initiatives.
When it comes to the installation on the roof, solar panels were originally planned not financially feasible by the end of initial construction, but are in mind for the future. The pieces currently on the roof are there to protect the structures that were created for the slated solar panels.

As a community outreach member, I am able to help make connections between school food service directors and farmers that may not always be possible otherwise.
Today was the housing fair, the time where all Oberlin dorms, program houses, and theme halls make posters and promote themselves to people who still don’t know where they want to live next year. Of course, I was promoting SciFi Hall, with a little help from some hall leaders and residents.
Anyone considering themed living at Oberlin for next year or beyond, this is a great post to read.
