Afrikana Community Responds to Bigotry

shakai-shugi:

This work of art was written in our school’s newspaper to shed light on the rampant racism on campus. Content warning for anti-black slurs.

We, the concerned members and allies of the Oberlin Afrikana community, are sick and tired… Read more.

A piece by members of our campus community published in the Oberlin Review, and the response from alumni in the following week’s issue. There has been an open forum and a large group discussion on the topics since the publication of both letters, plus a follow-up news article in the Oberlin Review.

oneh:

interior of 157 north professor street, the house designed by oberlin professor frederick b. artz, which he shared with fellow “bachelor” prof. raymond stetson from 1940 to stetson’s death in ‘50. seeing at pictures of gorgeous buildings that used to exist in oberlin gives me lots of feelings. learning queer history gives me even more feelings. the oberlin lgbt archive is an incredible resource for both - read more about artz here.

Beautiful photo, plus a great archive.

zombies-inlove asked: Hi! I was filling out the "All Roads Lead to Oberlin" registration form online, and I am planning to stay with a friend in the residence halls that night. Do I still have to check "yes" that I plan to stay overnight with a current student host, or by saying "no" does that confirm that I've made my own arrangements with a student?

Hi! We’re so pleased that you’re visiting for All Roads!

Our suggestion: mark that you’re planning to stay overnight, but then email the admissions office (college.admissions@oberlin.edu) noting your name, date you’re staying on campus, and your desire to stay overnight with a friend. Better safe than sorry!
