Anonymous asked: Greetings. I am in the process of applying early decision 1 and completing both the supplement Oberlin essay and the longer essay to be filled with the core Common Application. Are both read and considered by Admissions. Is there an emphasis of one over the other? Is the main common app essay scored by others and then the score only sent to the school? I want to make sure that admissions sees the text of both.

Whoohoo early decision! Good luck on your application!

The short answer is yes, both essays are read by admissions. The common application essay is useful for learning who you are and how you write. The Oberlin essay allows you to share with us why, in particular, you’re interested in attending Oberlin. The combination of the two are taken into consideration, both for different reasons, but rest assured, both will be seen by our admissions folks.

If you have any additional questions throughout your application process, the admissions office is definitely here to help; you can email them at college.admissions[AT]oberlin.edu.
